The site stewardship program:

CASSP has reached over two thousand workshop participants since 1999. New contributions to CASSP will be used to train more volunteers, to tell people why heritage resources are important and why they should be preserved undisturbed in the ground, and to give people information about appropriate behavior around sites.

You also can support site stewardship by sharing your enthusiasm for archaeology with others, by supporting local museums and historical societies, and by telling others that information about the past is lost forever if archaeological resources are taken or destroyed.

Partners for Archaeological Site Stewardship

The CASSP program is provided by Partners for Archaeological Site Stewardship (PASS), which is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit corporation located in Long Beach, California. PASS is not a government office, but it contracts with the public agencies in California to provide CASSP training and support. Beyond California, PASS promotes site stewardship by hosting online conferences and coordinating with site stewardship programs in other states. PASS provides the National Network for Community Archaeology Programs, a monthly, public, online meeting of site stewardship coordinators and volunteers to share experiences, best practices, and tools for reaching the public.
